Another successful summer

Red 8T reared two young this summer, both of which were flying by 25th July. He was regularly seen and photographed at Rothiemurchus Fishery and departed in early September.

Morven had three chicks this summer with her mate Yellow HA, one of her brood was translocated to the Basque country reintroduction project. She left the area in August, while her mate remained until 26th September.  He transmitter is no longer active.

Stopping over

Rothiemurchus us living along the River Eume, his favourite Galician stop-over, with a flight to the Ortigueira estuary on the north coast on afternoon of 15th September.

Moved back

Beatrice was at the reservoir near Istvan until 21st September when she moved back to her usual wintering site on the River Guadiaro.

Back to NW Galicia, Spain

By 0500GMT on 9th September he was on the French coast at St Valery, then at the next two hourly locations was just north of the esturay of the River Seine. He then flew SSW passing Mayenn an 1200hrs and Nantes at 1500. He flew out over the Bay of Biscay from Les Sables-d’Olonne at 1630hrs and at 2000hr was nearly a 100km west of the Gironde coast.  The next signal was not until 0900GMT on 11th when Rothiemurchus was perched on the north Spanish coast west of Ribadesella.  The next signal at 1400hrs showed that he had reached his favourite stop-off near As Pontes de Garcia Rodriguez.  A flight of over 1000 km

Restarted visits to Wester Ross

106 was in the Monadhliaths until 2nd September when she flew in the afternoon to Cuaich. Clearly her summer moult is over and she is starting to explore again. She left the Cuaich area at 4pm on 4th September, then flew fast to the west and that night roosted to the north of Loch Arkaig. On 5th September she flew north-west past Lochcarron and on through Torridon and then roosted overnight at Lettereww. On 6th September she flew back south-east and roosted that evening in Strathfarrar.

In south Caithness

107 spent the whole time in the flow country of southern Caithness, to the north, west and east of Morven; on 5th September at midday she was within 1 mile of the sea coast.

Big trip round Sutherland

Suilven remained in the area between Rogart and Lairg until 5th September when she flew west and by evening was roosting north of Kylesku. On 6th September she visited her natal area in Assynt and Canisp and stayed in that area until the afternoon of 8th September when she flew back to the Lairg region.

Fearnan remained in the same area although using a slightly greater range and spending more time on the higher hills south-east of Dalwhinnie.
