Sadly looks like Roxy has failed to nest successfully

Roxy’s behaviour in March and early April suggested she might breed in the same area as last year, but by mid month it looked like something had happened – failed or been disturbed. This was confirmed on 21st/22nd April when she roosted ovenight 22 km away and 9 km away on 24th/25 April

Across southern Sutherland

Suilven ranged over 2140 square km in April. Until 10th April she was SE of Elphin and then flew east to an arae east of Lairg and down past Ardgay. On 17th went to Inchbae and then on back to the Elphin area

Ranging in North Sutherland

Canisp was in the Rhoiconich and Cape Wrath side areas to 14th April when she flew east and ranged in the Flow Country around Kinbrace

Ranging usual areas Wester Ross

Reay ranged between usual haunts from Heights of Kinlochewe southwards to the hills east of Loch Carron in Wester Ross

Ranging widely

Globe ranged in a huge area of 7770 square km in April. On 4th she was near Loch Mullardoch, 6th around Cannich, 7th to Loch Shin and next day in Forsinaird area of Flow Country. On 11th ranged to low gorund at east ed of Thrumster Forest in Caithness, on 14th April flew south to Strathconon and then next day flew via Wester Ross to Foinavon. By 19th had gone south to the Loch Monar area and by 25th returned to the Loch Mullardoch area again.

Caithness and from mid moth back south around Loch Ness

107 was in his normal haunts in Caithness and the Strath Helmsdale up until 15th April; then fle wsouth to Coignafearn and to the areas west of Loch Ness

Mainly in Wester Ross

106 remained mainly in Wester and Mid Ross from 3rd to 25th April, with a quick return trip to the Mondahliaths on 17th and 18th April

Returns to Perthshire

Rothiemurchus set off north after 8am on 26th April and by 10am was approaching the Mersey; 4 hours later he was just south of Carlisle. He flew a more westerly route through the Borders and roosted in a wood near Solgirth, south of Dollar. On 27th he moved north at 6am, at 8am was southof Amulree and by 11am was back in the Dunkeld/Pitlochry area, where he settled last summer. During the 27th and 28th he ranged through 250 square km looking for a mate and a nest. Let’s hope he settles down as soon a spossible and breeeds successfully.

Spending a day in Mid Wales

He flew north in morning to be over the River Severn, upstream from Newtown, at 8am, and then flew a few miles north (with a fish?) to a forested hill north of Aberhafesp, then by 7pm he was back at the same place on the River Severn and roosted there overnight by the river.

Arrived back in England

Rothiemurchus left his roost early and flew over Jersey and by 0900GMT was north of Guernsey. An hour later (midday our time) he was 22 km WSW of Portland Bill flying NNW at 57k/hr at 372 metres abover the sea. Coming shore between Bridport and Lyme Regis he flew on to Brean Down to cross the Bristol Channel. At 4pm he was over Crickhowell in Wales and roosted for the night in a wood east of Dolfor
