The Foundation is interested in a range of other species both in the UK and abroad.
Below are some of the present projects.

This page is under development

White-tailed Eagle

We are a strong advocate that sea-eagles should be restored to all areas where they used
to occur in the UK and southern and western Europe. Roy Dennis is on the Scottish and UK
Sea-Eagle Team, and been involved in discussions about future releases in the Moray Firth and
in the Firth/Tay region. He has also recently advised on the feasibility of restoring sea eagles to
East Anglia and Wales, and given advice on similar projects in Spain and Gibraltar. In 2007, he assisted with the ringing, measuring and fitting radio transmitters to 15 young eagles released in the Forth/Tay area by the Sea Eagle Project Team. In July, he went to Kerry and helped the Irsih Sea Eagle Project Team with the ringing, measuring and fitting of radio transmitters. One bird was fitted with one of our high definition GPS satellite transmitters (we were unable to use it on a specific golden eagle chick because of breeding failure due to bad weather). The radio has been transferred to Irish Project but we continue to help with data collection and interpretation. All 15 were released in the Kerry National Park in August by Project Manager  Allan Mee.

The GPS radio is starting to provide excellent hourly GPS fixes - the bird is still close to the release site but has travelled up to 8 kilometres into the mountains.

Hobby

We have been monitoring the potential spread of this species into the Highlands,
after first locating a nest with four young in Strathspey in 2001.

Common Crane

In 1998 The Foundation carried out a feasibility study into restoring the crane to northern
Scotland. Discussions were had with experts from Europe and North America, including the International Crane Foundation, as well as study visits to key areas and crane workers.
The view was that this was possible and desirable, but at that time support in the
UK for reintroductions was low so the project was put on the back-burner. We are now
re-assessing the feasibility of carrying out this project and believe that it would be successful.

Storm's Stork

In 2006  Roy Dennis started some pioneering fieldwork, in partnership with the regional office
of The Nature Conservancy ,on this endangered stork in the Bornean rain forests
of East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Golden Eagle

We have assisted the Irish Golden Eagle project by helping with the collection of chicks
in the Highlands, the feeding and holding the young before transfer to Ireland, the export
paperwork and the fitting of radios and wing-tags in Donegal. We helped Lorcan O'Toole again in 2007 by housing and feeding 4 young prior to transfer to Donegal. We consider this to be an
excellent project and wish it every success.

www.goldeneagle.ie

It is brilliant news that Lorcan reports the first successfully fledged young eagle in 2007 - hopefully the start of the species' recovery in Ireland

We have a GPS radio on a chick in the Cairngorms National Park and it is starting to provide incredible detail of its daily movements - so far it has been close to its nesting site. When it starts to range widely we will be creating a webpage for this project, which is a  partnership with the Cairngorms National Park, Scottish Natural Heritage and the landowners.
