Globe is a female ringed 3rd July 2013 inthe Foinavon Special Protection Area for Golden Eagles in north-west Sutherland. Part of the PhD research project on golden eagles by Derek Spencer, started in 2011 and supervised by Professor Des Thompson, SNH. Globe is named after the beautiful yellow globe flowers growing in the cliffs just below her eyrie. After fledging in the second half of July 2013 she remained close to the breeding site and slowly increased her range to 22 km² by the end of September – all within her parents’ home range. She made longer flights of 17 km northwards on 16th October and 8 km to the south-west on 18th October, but we do not know whether she was following her parents or not on these trips. She remained with her parents until the end of the year.
