Beatrice made a great migration today – at 12oo GMT she was 29 km north of Cherbourg and an hour later west of The Needles, Isle of Wight – 79 km in an hour. She continued at this speed of 50 mph with a southerly wind and the latest signal at 1600GMT – 5pm she was just south of Gloucester at 1200 metres flying N at 50 mph – she should be home Tuesday.
Later signals showed that she stopped and roosted in field boundary trees on farmland just east of Wixall Moss – a day’s flight of 510 km – if she did that tomorrow she would be home by nightfall
