Beatrice went back to her nest site on the afternoon of 8th August and then departed on migration at 11am on 9th August – the 6th autumn migration that we have tracked. At 7pm she was flying across the Firth of Forth from Fife to North Berwick, and roosted that night near Athelstaneford. Next day she only travelled 36 km to Lauder as she got caught up in the storm of the tail end of Hurricane Bertha. Next day was a day of floods in southern Scotland and Beatrice just flew 68 km to a forest south of Otterburn, where she rested up until the morning of 13th August. With better weather on 13th she flew 294 km during the day to roost that evening at Grimsthorpe Castle, SE of Grantham. Next day she flew on south and roosted overnight near Amersham.
