General

Roxy was a single male eaglet at a nest in Galloway.  He was ringed and satellite tagged on 6th July 2010 by David Anderson (Forestry Commission) and Duncan Orr-Ewing (RSPB Scotland), with the help and support of the South Strathclyde and Dumfries & Galloway Raptor Study Groups and the Forestry Commission Scotland.  He was in good condition with no stress bars; there was plenty of prey in the eyrie.

Annual Movements

Roxy remained in his natal area until mid October 2010.  He then surprised us by heading to the coastal lowlands around the Machars and remained there all year.  On investigation we found that the area was full of rabbits, which evidently provided very easy prey.  Roxy’s range was only 0.73 square kilometers around the nest site; the smallest post-fledging area of any of the young eagles we are tracking.  In April 2011 he finally decided to move, and set off to East Lothian, and then towards the English border.  Throughout the rest of the year he ranged around the Borders.
