2012: Reed & Willow

With the help of Martin Cook, I satellite tagged 2 young marsh harriers this year at a nest that he had located in the county of Moray. He had ringed the two young and I fitted them both with tags.

Reed

Reed was fitted with tag 21253 – a non GPS satellite tag. For the first month after fledging he ranged in the general area of the breeding site. Then on last day of August he moved to Aberdeen and then north to a large area inland from the Ythan estuary. He set off on his migration to Africa on September 20th 2012.

Willow

Willow was fitted with tag 51889 – a GPS satellite tag. For the first six weeks after fledging Willow ranged in the general area of the breeding site, and was more often close to the nest site, probably because she was dominant. She set off on her migration to Africa on September 20th 2012.
