Rothiemurchus is still wandering in a range of 500 square km in Perthshire although he has moved a bit and spending more time by Loch Benachully. I wonder if he will calling in and spend some time near Carlisle this autumn
Still in Perthshire
Moved to reservoir again
Beatrice arrived on the usual wintering grounds on the River Adour at 20.30GMT on 20th August and spent most of her time around the ponds in the orange groves, with fishing trips down river to usual sites. In afternoon of 27th August, whe set off east and at 1500hrs was over Marbella before turning NE to the reservoir de la Concepcion, Istan. This is the same place she visited last year and she was still there on 31st August.
Rothiemurchus starts migration
Usual haunts
Rothiemurchus has remained in same area, often perched around Loch Ordie north of Loch of the Lowes and flying NE to fish on the Shee Water – a range of 580 square kms to 19th August.
Stop-over on River Adour
Great flight through France
Beatrice arrives in France
Beatrice set off on migration on 9th August- passed the Isle of May at 5pm and roosted the night at Denholm, near Jedburgh in Scottish Borders. On 10th she flew on south past York and roosted that night beside lakes near RAF Gamston near Retford. On 11th her migration was well east and she flew over the London City Airport at 1500 feet altitude at 3pm and roosted that night north of the Channel coast near Bexhill. Today she crossed the English Channel and roosted the night north of Alencon in Normandy.
Little change
Rothiemurchus has remained in the same area of Perthshire although in the last 10 days he has flown regularly 10 miles north-east to fish along the river in the southern part of Glenshee
Left nest area
Beatrice left her nest area on August 8th and flew to the River Avon at Glenlivet, she was settled alongside the river at 3pm and 4pm. I wonder how long she will stay there before she starts the big journey south after successfully rearing one chick. It’s been a favourite fishing area in previous years.
