Beatrice flew back to the usual wintering area

Beatrice left the reservoir at Istvan on 5th October and by midday was back at her favourite locations on the River Guadiaro.

Still at Reservoir de la Concepcion

Jacki Gittins sent me an email yesterday   “Hi, I took a drive towards Istan and the Reservoir de la Concepcion this morning to see if I might find Beatrice. No luck at all (she’s probably back in the
Sotogrande by now!) but thought you might like to see a photo of the north of the reservoir she’s been roaming. I’m here for the south migration and have been lucky so far – skies full of booted eagles and black storks. No Ospreys yet but I’ll go and see if I can spot the residents at Embalse de Barbate whilst I’m here. Thanks for the website and tracking info – it’s fabulous to follow.”

I checked the GPS data this morning and yesterday Beatrice was hanging out on the west side of the lake.  Here is Jacki’s photo of the resevoir from north end.istvan

Well settled on reservoir north of Marbella

Beatrice is well settled on the Conscepcion reservoir near Istvan; mainly in the north part of the lake and ranging over more than two kms of the reservoir

Onto to the reservoir at Istan

Beatrice roosted overnight and then flew east to the Embalse de la Concepcion near Istvan, where she visited in previous years. She has settled there.

Back at winter home

On 22nd Auust Beatrice roosted near the lagunas north of Aranjuez after a good day’s migration. On 23rd she was off before 0800GMT heading S over the mountains and then SW to roost beside the River Guadalquivir near Andujar.  Next day she was off by 0800GMT and headed direct SSW to arrive at 1530GMT at her winter home on the River Guadiara. She went straight to her favorite ponds in the orange groves and then roosted in the usual big trees by the river.

Sets off for Spain

This autumn Beatrice did not stay for long at her stop-over. At 1000GMT on 20th she was already heading south and an hour later was south of Peyrehorade heading for the Spanish border at the west end of the Pyrenees. By now she should be well south into Spain

At River Adour stop-over

Beatrice reached her stop-over on the River Adour, between Gouts and Onard, before 1800 GMT on 17th August and behaved as in previous stop-overs. Moving to fish further down river at times

South through France to her favourite stop-over

Beatrice flew on south through France to Niort on 16th and today she headed on south, passing Bordeaux at 1500GMT and at the latest transmission two hours later was flying south at 55kph at an altitude of 1289 metres – she was then only 16 km north of her favourite stop-over – in fact she was probably already looking at her destination and will be there by now.
