Flying fast and arrives in England

Beatrice made a great migration today – at 12oo GMT she was 29 km north of Cherbourg and an hour later west of The Needles, Isle of Wight – 79 km in an hour. She continued at this speed of 50 mph with a southerly wind and the latest signal at 1600GMT – 5pm she was just south of Gloucester at 1200 metres flying N at 50 mph – she should be home Tuesday.

Later signals showed that she stopped and roosted in field boundary trees on farmland just east of Wixall Moss – a day’s flight of 510 km – if she did that tomorrow she would be home by nightfall

To Normandy

Beatrice flew 400 km north today and by 1600GMT had reached Forest of Andaines in south Normandy, where she settled to roost for the night

Beatrice sets off for Scotland

Beatrice left her stop-over on River Adour yesterday morning and by 1700GMT was roosting in a belt of trees in farmland just south of the River La Garonne near Macau, Bordeaux. Her day’s journey was 136 km and she is now heading north.

Still stopping over at Adour

Beatrice is still stopping over in southern France but this spring she is ranging much more widely (up to 14 km west) to small lakes and rivers. Presumably to find fish may be hunting is not so good in the main Adour marshes in the last two weeks.

Beatrice is still at her favourite stop-over site on the River Adour but is ranging more widely this spring.

Beatrice has been regualrly ranging down to Palmones Bay from her usual winter site, and used an area of 300 square km.  Probably getting ready to fly to France.

Visiting the Med

Beatrice has started to travel to the Mediterranean coast in the last week, being at the mouth of the Guadiara River on 15th February and all the way down to Pamones on the 16th.
