Through Iberia to Coto Donana

Fiddich migrated steadily on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th down through Iberia along the border between Spain and Portugal. Today turned east and fle over the Huelva Marshes between 1400 and 1500GMT (this is where the Scottish origin translocated osprey, which I moved to Spain, is nesting, with other Scottish birds also present). An hour later she settled to roost overnight in the western part of the Coto Donana National Park

Fiddich’s migration 15th -18th September

Completed an amazing 1000 mile flight

A fantastic migration from the English Midlands to North Spain

Fiddich was still around her roost area south of Manchester at 7am and 8am,and at 9am an 10am was perched further south to the north of Congleton. Sometime later she started migrating and was passing Birmingham at 2pm, and between 5pm and 9pm she was perching at several places near Priors Marston. But sometime soon after she set off SSW because at 7am on 13th when the transmitter started collecting data again she was 226 miles further on flying over the Western Approaches west of the Channel Islands.  At 0800GMT she was approaching the north coast of Brittany and an hour later was SE of Brest heading south out over the Bay of Biscay. She flew strongly down over the Atlantic and when the transmitter swiched off for the night at 2000hrs, she was flying S at 27kph 140 metres above the sea. Fom the subsequent data she probably reached Spain after 2300hrs.

At 0600GMT on 14th, she was roosting in the sea cliffs just north of Nueva. But by 1000hrs she was in the mountains flying S and then settled down 1300 hrs in a rver valley near Vegas del Candado. What another fantastic migration.

South to Manchester

At 10am was perched SW of Glasgow and then set off south or SSE. Flew across the Solway Firth and at 2pm was heading towards Whitehaven and by evening roosted south of Manchester. More detail to be added

To Dumbarton

Only 32 miles today – first of all south to Bridge of Allan, then west to Carron Valley Reservoir where perched at 11am and 1pm,then flew west to hill above Bowling, east of Dumbarton where she roosted the night.

Migration on 10th September

Short flight to Dunblane

At 11am and got as far south as Stanley, then over east side of Perth and turned west to Innerdonny Hill and then away to Dunblane by 6pm, where stayed the night after flight of just 45 miles

Fiddich sets off on migration

Fiddich set off from Moray late morning and was near Creagallachie at midday.  Flew SSE and was flying to the Aberdeenshire border at Cabrach at 1pm, crossed into Angus over the heather moors at 2pm then tracked  south to Glen Clova and settled for the night just NW of Bamff, near Alyth after 75 miles – a good start with excellent track.

First day’s migration

Still at home

Fiddich is still ranging around the nest area and being fed by the male.
