At River Adour

Beatrice roosted last night by the River Adour.  News and photographs of Beatrice have come in from French ornithologists – will get them posted later today

Ranging widely

Beatrice is ranging in a large area around the River Adour – 82 sq km since she arrived on 4th March. Jean-Valentin Dourthe and Joanne Brambly both emailed to say the area was very flooded at present.

Now at French stop-over

Beatrice roosted near Aranjuez on night of 28th February and next day, 1st March, flew east of Madrid and completed a flight of 225 km to roost overnight near Soria. On 2nd she headed for the mountains north of Pamplona but had to turn back and roost in the Spanish foothills near Lantz. On 3rd March she crossed the Pyrenees into France at 1045GMT and roosted overnight west of Ponlonx-sur-l’Adour. Next morning she flew to her favourite stop-over on the River Adour.  Since then she has been ranging in that area, more widley than in other springs.

Flight north to River Adour

Beatrice off north – 27th February

Beatrice set off just before 0900GMT on 27th February and headed NNW; an hour later she was west of Ronda and headed NNE and by evening settled to roost beside Embalse del Rio Yeguas, near Montoro. Next day she flew north nearly to Madrid and roosted that night beside the A4 just south of Dosbarrios.  Another journey is under way and she should be headed for her stop-over just over the French border. Today I passed her nest and it was standing proud in a bright winter’s day.
